Duct Tape, anyone?

Monday, November 19, 2007

In case you didn't know, my roommate and I live on the 12th floor of our dormitory. I've quickly learned that the winter winds are REALLY cold at that altitude. Sure, we're only 120 feet up in the sky, but we're living in one of the coldest countries!! You can see in the picture that Dan and Mark are carefully taping up the "cracks" in our windows to keep the draft from entering into our room. You should have seen how cold Dan and I were in our room before the windows were taped up. We even had a little portable heater in our room to help keep the temperature warm but it wasn't enough. So Mark and I went in search for some tape and foam at the local market. Apparently many of the local people here have to do the same thing we needed to do with our windows so it wasn't difficult to find these items. Unfortunately, they don't sell Duct Tape here, which is what I was hoping to find, so we settled for simple Masking Tape. It definitely worked and the room is quite warm but I have to admit that I think I'm a firm believer in the saying "duct tape holds the world together".

These are a couple of guys who live on the 12th floor with me. The one on the left is Rami and the one in the middle is Mohammed. Mohammed is from Egypt and is actually one of my fellow classmates who is learning the language. This guy makes learning the language fun in the classroom because he's got a great sense of humor and enjoys laughing at himself when he makes mistakes during class. There was one night when I brought him into my room, before we taped the windows up, and he exclaimed "как холодильник!!", which means "It feels like a refrigerator in here!"

Dude, I saw the knife throwing bro. It was pretty awesome. Ten bucks says I would have gotten it to go three revolutions.
