Picnic in the Woods = Shashleek!!!

What is it that students do during the summer? After a long year of late-night studying, waking up early at absurd times, and overdosing on caramel frappuccinos at Starbucks (we actually have a Starbucks here. Tall coffee: $6.50), what is a student to do? Well…relax and play BASEBALL!!! Baseball is such a great sport. It’s uniquely an American game and can be found played in several countries around the world today. I’ve actually only been to one MLB game in my life but it was a game to remember. The sun mixed with humidity created a sort of mucky yet relaxing atmosphere. The aroma of hotdogs in the air overloaded with mustard and onions teased my stomach into buying itself a couple . Unfortunately, this country’s national sport is not baseball but most likely soccer. Many have never experienced the game or even know how to play it. And that’s where we come in. Several of us Americans organize a weekly baseball game throughout the duration of the summer in an attempt to draw students and young people together. We’ve already been playing for the past month and have been successful in meeting with new people, as well as those who have been eagerly coming for the past few summers. Just recently we held a picnic in the forest on the outskirts of our city. Traditional picnics include shashleek, which is equivalent to our BBQ but usually cooked using charcoals and without the use of propane. Yes, it was tasty (see the pictures I took) and guess who helped cooked it? Yep, yours truly. :) Not only did we have good eating at our picnic but also great fellowship. Some Christian friends of mine shared their testimonies about how God had changed their lives. How He brought them from darkness and into the light by the forgiveness of their sins through Jesus Christ. Several folks there, both believers and unbelievers had the opportunity to hear the Gospel and see what it was like to fellowship with Christians. Not with people who “classify” themselves as Christians yet are hypocritical but with Christians who daily walk with the Lord. We even sang some English Christian hymns and prayed as a group.

It really was a great time. Food, sports, fellowship, worship in song and prayer, and most importantly, knowing that God was honored brings great joy to my heart.
